The Adventures of a Retail Book Nerd

Anyone who's worked in retail knows how it feels to deal with customers all day. The customer is usually convinced that they are right, even when they are wrong. In a bookstore, there's the added assumption that, if the customer doesn't know something, we booksellers do. Because we exist to define Spanish vocabulary, procure texts on the laws that govern the Social Security Administration, and pick up and reshelve the books we spent fifteen minutes tracking down and they spent fifteen seconds looking at. Our primary function is to make your life easier.

The flip side of this, is the unlimited access to new books. They belong to us before they belong to you. We see the stacks of unopened Harry Potter or Dan Brown boxes come off the truck. We shelve the interesting, funny, exciting, good stories all mixed in with the boring, slow moving, my-dog-could-have-done-better stories. And then we help you sift through the mix. That's the other half of what this blog will be.

So, if you just want a laugh at the expense of your fellow humans, or if you're just dying to hear my perspective on what to read and what to wait for the movie, stay tuned!
